INTRODUCING THE PROJECT

The Tabligbo Water and Sanitation Service Improvement Project (ASEAT) proposes to improve access to drinking water and sanitation in tabligbo municipality in a sustainable way:

  • Expanding the public water service in unserved neighbourhoods
  • Strengthening communal project management capacity
  • Raising awareness and improving cleansanitation as a risk factor for water
  • The regulation of the price of water at fountains and kiosks
  • A transfer of jurisdiction over the asset management of water networks and the delegated management of small centres

RESULTS DIRECTS ATTENDUS

  • Extending access to water to neighbourhoods not yet served by the TdE and intensification of the network in the neighbourhoods already served
  • General improvement in the operation of the TdE system and the water service
  • Improved water distribution conditions for residents through fountains and private connections
  • Improved water and sanitation capacity in the municipality.
  • Regulation of water tariffs at fountains at 500 CFA (EUR 0.8) per m3
  • Improving people’s knowledge of hygiene through awareness campaigns
  • Improved water quality by studying potential sources of pollution.
  • Improving and transferring knowledge on the asset management of water networks and delegated management in small centres

SOLUTION

  • Extension and improvement of access to water service in neighbourhoods: construction of a fountain terminal, recommissioning or extension of the network in priority neighbourhoods
  • Structuring and operationalization of a municipal water and sanitation entity
  • Training of the town hall in municipal building management
  • Public management of fountains: transfer of management of public fountains to CDQs
  • Introducing a regulated tariff mechanism at fountains
  • Awareness: building the awareness capacity of community actors, interpersonal and mass communications
  • Wealth management of secondary centres and delegated management of small centres
